David Gilmour anuncia novo show nos cinemas e álbum ao vivo

A turnê de 2024 de David Gilmour promovendo o álbum Luck and Strange durou apenas sete semanas e passou por poucas cidades, o que significa que a grande maioria de seus fãs não teve a oportunidade de apreciá-la. Isso mudará em 17 de setembro, quando o novo filme do show de Gilmour, Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome, chegar aos cinemas e telas IMAX em todo o mundo.

Para o lançamento em Blu-Ray/DVD/CD em 17 de outubro, Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome será acompanhado por um segundo material que aborda a turnê de forma mais ampla, The Luck and Strange Concerts. O pacote neste caso inclui um livro de 24 páginas. E para os fãs mais dedicados, há também uma caixa superluxuosa com 11 discos, um livro de 120 páginas, uma cartela de adesivos, dois cartões-postais e um pôster.

A turnê Luck and Strange foi a primeira vez que Gilmour excursionou desde 2016. Ele voltou com uma banda praticamente nova e um repertório focado principalmente em músicas solo e faixas de sua época como líder do Pink Floyd. Antes da turnê, ele inicialmente cogitou a ideia de não tocar nada dos anos de Roger Waters. Todavia, ele mudou de ideia.

“É preciso acordar para a realidade de vez em quando”, disse ele à Rolling Stone EUA em agosto de 2024. “Acho que tocarei uma ou duas coisas daquela época, mas parece que foi há tanto tempo. Sei que as pessoas adoram, e eu adoro tocá-las. Vou tocar ‘Wish You Were Here’, claro que sim. E algumas das coisas que começaram comigo, pelo menos.”

Da era Waters, além de “Wish You Were Were”, o show também contou com “Breathe (In the Air)”, “Time”, “Fat Old Sun”, “The Great Gig in the Sky” e “Comfortably Numb”. Ao promover a turnê, ele deixou claro mais uma vez que qualquer tipo de reencontro com Waters no palco é simplesmente impossível neste momento. “De jeito nenhum”, disse Gilmour ao The Guardian. “Eu costumo evitar pessoas que apoiam ativamente ditadores genocidas e autocráticos como Putin e Maduro. Nada me faria dividir o palco com alguém que acha que esse tipo de tratamento às mulheres e à comunidade LGBTQIA+ é aceitável.”

A turnê Luck and Strange também foi a primeira vez que Gilmour levou sua filha Romany para a estrada. Ela fez backing vocals durante boa parte do show e assumiu a liderança em uma bela interpretação de “Between Two Points”, da dupla indie pop britânica Montgolfier Brothers. A música também é um destaque do álbum Luck and Strange.

“Ela deve ter ouvido a música uma ou duas vezes na vida em nossas playlists, mas na verdade ela não a conhecia”, disse Gilmour à Rolling Stone. “Eu simplesmente dei a letra a ela em um pedaço de papel e a coloquei na frente do microfone. Ela é uma verdadeira profissional com o microfone, desde os três anos de idade. E basicamente, o vocal que você ouve nessa faixa é o primeiro take dela até o fim.”
